“Blanche de Bruges/Brugs Tarwebier” is once again one of the most authentic, family-brewed wheat beers on the market. It reflects 5 generations of craftsmanship within the Vanneste family of brewing the typical wheat beer.
In early 2019, Xavier Vanneste, Managing Director of the brewery “De Halve Maan” reached an agreement with Alken-Maes (Heineken) to bring the production of “Brugs” back to its roots and to brew it in accordance with its original recipe in the city centre of Bruges under its original name, “Blanche de Bruges/Brugs Tarwebier”.
"Brugs Tarwebier" was launched in 1984 by Xavier’s cousin, Paul Vanneste, at his brewery “De Gouden Boom”. The beer was an immediate success due to its refreshing taste and aromas of coriander seeds and curaçao orange peel.
The logo of the “De Gouden Boom” brewery was put on the new label so that people in Bruges could recognise their original wheat beer from the olden days.
The label also shows the Vanneste family’s coat of arms in a reference to the family’s brewing tradition that spans 5 generations.
